Student Workers of Columbia-United Auto Workers organized the picket on College Walk, with others picketing outside the Broadway gates. Demonstrators condemned recent student expulsions for protest, the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, SIPA ’24, and the University’s acquiescence to pressure by the Trump administration. The pickets followed a press conference organized by the Columbia chapter of the American Association of University Professors held outside the Amsterdam Avenue gates shortly before. Speakers accused the University of infringing on academic freedom and students’ right to free speech on campus.
